Sustainable Sourcing

Coffee has been our business for over 200 years, supporting the livelihoods of people all over the world. But that business cannot continue without a sustainable sector where coffee is produced, processed, and used responsibly. That is why we are so invested in leading change in our industry.

HUMAN RIGHTS

We are committed to delivering due diligence according to the United Nations Guiding Principles for Business & Human Rights.

Each year, we publish a UCC Swiss Compliance Report and a UK Modern Slavery Statement, in accordance with Article 964j-k of the Swiss Code of Obligations and Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, respectively.

And we have established robust risk management, supplier management, and grievance processes – allowing us to assess any issues in our supply chain and mitigate or remediate them effectively.

NATURE POSITIVE

UCC has committed to a global zero-deforestation goal, meaning our coffee sourcing will involve neither deforestation nor land conversion. And our European business has committed to deliver this goal in 2025.

EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) is a key focus for UCC, and we are working hard with the European Coffee Federation and National Associations, which we are proud members of, to ensure we are able to deliver on our 2025 goal.

Beyond Europe, we are also working with our global colleagues to focus investment towards nature positive coffee, starting with four key focus origin countries – Brazil, Uganda, Vietnam & Tanzania.

ETHICAL ASSURANCE

Our roasting sites are audited by several independent organisations, including SEDEX and BRC. UCC also completes voluntary third-party audits on ESG topics, including CDP, TCFD, and EcoVadis.

We maintain the standards and processes necessary to offer our customers a wide choice of sustainability certifications, including Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade and Soil Association Organic.
